A placeholder is needed when the layout is ready but the real photos are not. This page creates a picture of any size with the background color and caption you want, so layouts and test data can be checked without waiting for content.
Specify the width and height in pixels or choose one of the popular sizes: from a 150 by 150 icon to a 1920 by 1080 screen and vertical frames for stories. The preview updates right after every change.
By default the placeholder shows its own size, but the text can be replaced with any word, for example the name of a block. The background and text colors are chosen in the palette, and diagonals help you see the picture borders on a gray field.
The finished placeholder can be saved as PNG, JPG or WebP. The SVG format gives a very light file of any size with no loss of sharpness, and it is handy for prototypes, documentation and test pages.
The picture is drawn in the browser rather than requested from someone else’s server. So it works without the internet, does not depend on external services and leaves no traces in requests. The allowed size is limited to forty megapixels.
