Image compression
Reduce the file size of images with almost no visible loss. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
JPG, WebP, AVIF: image quality. PNG, GIF: number of colors. SVG: number simplification. TIFF is compressed losslessly. If the file did not get smaller, the original is kept.
Image compression reduces the file size while keeping acceptable picture quality. Light images load faster on websites, take less space on a device and are easier to send by email and in messengers. This page performs compression directly in the browser.
A different method is applied for each format. In JPG, WebP and AVIF the encoding quality is lowered: details that are barely noticeable to the eye are simplified. In PNG and GIF the number of colors in the palette is reduced. In SVG the numbers written in the text are simplified, and TIFF is compressed losslessly.
The quality slider sets the balance between size and appearance. For photographs, values from 60 to 80 usually give a noticeable saving in size with almost no visible distortion. Values that are too low lead to blocky artifacts and blurred fine details.
The photo compression tool shows the size before and after processing, as well as the percentage of change. If the file turns out larger than the original after compression, the original version is kept. Because of this, the result will never be worse in size than the uploaded file.
The size of the image in pixels does not change, so the resolution stays the same. If you need to reduce the dimensions of the picture itself, it is more convenient to use the resizing tool and then, if necessary, compress the result further. No registration or software installation is required.
All operations are performed on your device by the browser. Files are not sent to a server and are not stored. You can upload several images at once and download the results separately or all together. The page works on computers, tablets and smartphones.
