Converter from CR2
The ready-made photo embedded in Canon CR2 RAW files is taken and saved as JPG, PNG or WebP. The size may be smaller than the full shot. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
CR2 is the raw image format used by Canon DSLR and mirrorless cameras since the mid-2000s. The name stands for Canon Raw version 2. The file contains sensor data practically unprocessed by the camera’s processor.
The CR2 structure is based on the TIFF format. Besides sensor data, it holds EXIF metadata, information about the lens and shooting settings, and one or more embedded JPEG images intended for quick viewing on the camera screen and in programs.
The advantage of RAW is the headroom in exposure and white balance, which allows many shooting errors to be corrected in processing. The drawback is file size and limited support: browsers, messengers and websites do not show CR2 without special programs.
The CR2 to JPG converter extracts the embedded image and saves it as JPG, PNG or WebP. Such a picture already has the processing set by the camera profile, so it looks the same as on the camera screen and is suitable for publishing.
The size of the embedded frame may be smaller than the full resolution of the sensor. For large-format printing and deep correction it is better to use full development in a RAW editor. For viewing, selecting frames and sending to a client, this image is enough.
All operations are performed locally in the browser. Files are not sent to a server and are not stored. Results can be downloaded one by one or all at once. After the page is closed, temporary data is removed from browser memory.
