Converter from HEIC

HEIC and HEIF photos from iPhone are turned into JPG, PNG or WebP. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.

HEIC is the file format in which modern Apple smartphones save photographs, starting with iOS 11. It uses the HEIF container and the HEVC compression codec, also known as H.265. This approach produces files about half the size of equivalent JPGs at comparable quality.

Besides the main shot, a HEIC file can contain several images, thumbnails, a depth map for portrait mode, color data and EXIF metadata. Thanks to a color depth of up to 10 bits, the format conveys smooth gradients and complex lighting better.

The problem is compatibility. Many versions of Windows, old viewers, services and forums do not open such files or require paid codecs because of HEVC licensing. For this reason it is common to convert pictures to a more familiar format before sending them.

The HEIC to JPG converter lets you save a photograph as JPG, PNG or WebP. JPG suits publishing and sending, PNG keeps all pixels without loss, and WebP gives a small size and is supported by all modern browsers. The size in pixels stays the same.

Transparency is rare in HEIC photographs, but when JPG is selected it is replaced with the chosen background color. The quality parameter affects the compression of the resulting JPG or WebP: a value of about 85 is considered a good compromise between size and quality.

Decoding is performed in the browser by a module that is loaded when the first file is opened. Photographs are not transferred to a server and never leave the device. You can select several pictures at once and download the results separately or all together.
