AVIF converter and compression
JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF are turned into AVIF with the quality you need. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
AVIF, or AV1 Image File Format, is a modern image format based on the AV1 video compression technology. It was developed by the Alliance for Open Media consortium, and the first version of the specification was published in 2019.
The format uses reference-frame coding from the AV1 video codec and the HEIF container. It can create files noticeably smaller than JPG or WebP at comparable quality. Transparency, high color depth, wide color spaces and extended dynamic range are supported.
Thanks to its efficiency, AVIF became popular among website developers who need to reduce the weight of graphics without a visible drop in quality. Current versions of the main browsers open such images, although old programs and editors may not recognize them.
The drawback is high computational complexity. Encoding takes noticeably longer than creating a JPG or WebP, especially for large images. On weak devices the conversion can last several seconds, which should be taken into account in batch processing.
The AVIF converter accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF and lets you choose the quality. For photographs, values from 50 to 70 usually turn out optimal. The size in pixels stays the same, while the file size is often reduced several times.
Encoding is performed locally in the browser using a module that is loaded on first launch. Images are not sent to a server. After processing, the result can be downloaded separately or together with other files. The page works on computers, tablets and smartphones.
