PCX converter
JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are turned into PCX with compression. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
PCX is a raster format created by ZSoft for the PC Paintbrush graphics editor in the mid-1980s. For many years it was one of the main graphics formats on computers running DOS and early versions of Windows.
The file begins with a 128-byte header that specifies the image size, the number of color planes and the number of bits per pixel. The data compressed by run length follows. This simple method works well with drawings that have many identical consecutive values.
The format supports modes from monochrome to full color. For indexed images, a 256-color palette is stored at the end of the file. Full-color images are written separately by the red, green and blue channels. No registration or software installation is required.
Lossless compression makes PCX convenient for simple diagrams and drawings, but not very effective for photographs, which may take as much space as in uncompressed form. The format does not support transparency, so transparent areas are replaced with a background.
The PCX converter is used to work with old programs, archives and equipment that accepts only this format. On the page you can choose the depth: 24 bits for any colors, or 8 bits with a palette, when the file turns out lighter. The size in pixels stays the same.
Processing is performed in the browser on your device. Files are not uploaded to a server and are not stored after the page is closed. Results can be downloaded separately or all together. The page works on computers, tablets and smartphones.
