Converter from HEIF
HEIF and HEIC files from iPhone and other cameras are turned into JPG, PNG or WebP. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
HEIF, or High Efficiency Image File Format, is a standard for storing images and image sequences, developed by the MPEG group and published in 2015. It defines a container in which data encoded by different codecs can be placed, most often HEVC.
The extensions heif and heic denote files of one family. The name heic is used for images with the HEVC codec, which are created by the iPhone and many other cameras. One file can contain a series of shots, animation, transparency, auxiliary data and a description of the color profile.
The main advantage of the format is compression efficiency. At the same visual quality, HEIF files usually take half the space of a JPG. That is why it was chosen for storing photographs in smartphones with limited memory.
Compatibility remains a drawback. Some programs, websites and operating systems cannot open such files without additional codecs. The HEIF converter solves the problem by turning the picture into a JPG, PNG or WebP that any device and service can understand.
Choose the format and quality you need and, if necessary, set a background color to replace transparency. The size in pixels is preserved, color data is carried over to a standard color space, and the orientation of the frame is taken into account, so the picture will not end up rotated.
The conversion is performed locally, and files are not uploaded to a server. This matters for personal photographs. Results can be downloaded one by one or all at once. After the page is closed, temporary data is removed from browser memory.
