BMP converter

JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are turned into BMP. The format does not compress the image, so the files turn out large. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.

BMP, or Windows Bitmap, is one of the oldest raster graphics formats. It appeared together with early versions of the Windows and OS/2 operating systems and for a long time served as the main way to store images on personal computers.

The file structure is extremely simple: a header with the dimensions and color depth is written first, followed by pixel values row by row. Compression is not applied in most cases, so the image is stored without loss, and practically any program can open such a file.

The flip side of simplicity is large size. A 12-megapixel photograph at 24 bits per pixel takes about 36 megabytes. The BMP format is not suitable for publishing on the internet and is used mainly for specialized tasks.

The BMP converter is used for old programs, embedded systems and educational projects that require an uncompressed raster. 3 modes are available: 24 bits, 32 bits with transparency, and 8 bits with a 256-color palette, which makes the file lighter.

If the source image contains transparent areas but a mode without an alpha channel is selected, transparency is replaced with the background color. To keep semi-transparent pixels, use the 4-channel mode, which not all viewers support.

The conversion is performed locally, and files stay on your device. The size in pixels is preserved, while the file size in bytes predictably grows. Results can be downloaded one by one or all together. No registration or software installation is required.
