PBM converter
JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are turned into PBM, an image made only of black and white dots. The format is simple and very light. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
PBM, or Portable Bitmap, is the simplest format of the Netpbm family. It stores an image consisting only of black and white dots, where each dot is described by one bit. The format is intended for data exchange and has no complex features.
The file structure includes a header with the format identifier and the dimensions, followed by the data. In the binary variant 8 pixels are packed into one byte, so the file turns out small. Compression is not used, and reading is very fast.
Because halftones are not supported, converting a color image applies thresholding: light pixels become white and dark ones black. Fine details and gradients disappear, and the result resembles a line drawing. No registration or software installation is required.
This format is used for storing masks, stencils, scans of black-and-white documents, fonts and graphics for devices with monochrome screens. It also serves as a teaching example when studying the basics of how images are represented in computer memory.
The PBM converter accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF and converts them to a two-color variant. The size in pixels is preserved. For the best result, use sources with good contrast and large details.
All processing takes place in the browser, and files are not sent to a server. Results can be downloaded one by one or all at once. No registration or software installation is required. The page works on computers, tablets and smartphones.
