ARW, or Sony Alpha Raw, is the raw image format of Sony cameras in the Alpha and RX series and many others. It contains sensor data in practically original form, as well as shooting parameters, lens information and a thumbnail.

The file is based on the TIFF structure, so it holds several data blocks. Besides the main sensor image, a preview shot in JPEG format is usually embedded. It is the one that viewers and the camera screen use to show the frame quickly.

The ARW format exists in several versions. New cameras apply compression that reduces the file size, and some models offer a lossless variant. Because of the differences between versions, not all programs read files equally correctly, especially from new models.

The ARW to JPG converter extracts the embedded image and saves it as JPG, PNG or WebP. This lets you view and send a shot quickly, without installing specialized software and without waiting for full development.

The size of such a frame may be smaller than the full resolution of the sensor, and its colors correspond to the camera settings. For printing large formats and deep exposure editing, processing the RAW data in a professional editor is preferable.

The conversion is performed in the browser, and files are not uploaded to a server. You can upload several shots and download the results separately or all at once. After the page is closed, temporary data is removed from browser memory.
