Converter from ORA

OpenRaster ORA files from Krita and GIMP are turned into JPG, PNG or WebP. The layers are merged into one image. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.

ORA, or OpenRaster, is an open format for layered raster images supported by free graphics editors, in particular Krita and GIMP. It was created as a simple and documented alternative to closed formats with layer support.

Technically, an ORA file is a ZIP archive. It holds a description of the project structure in XML format, separate layer images in PNG format, a thumbnail and a merged copy of the whole drawing. This organization makes reading and processing by other programs easier.

The format preserves layer order, transparency, visibility and blending modes. This is convenient for artists and illustrators who work in several programs. However, most viewers and websites cannot open ORA, so a regular raster format is needed for publishing.

The ORA to JPG converter assembles the layers into a single image, taking their order and transparency into account, and saves the result as JPG, PNG or WebP. For PNG and WebP, transparent areas stay transparent, and for JPG the chosen background color is used.

The size of the final image corresponds to the canvas size of the project. Hidden layers are not displayed, just as in the editor. If rare blending modes are used in the file, the result may differ slightly from how it looks in the program.

Unpacking and assembly are performed in the browser on your device. Files are not sent to a server, which rules out leaks of working materials. Results can be downloaded separately or all at once. After the page is closed, temporary data is removed from browser memory.
