ICO converter
JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are turned into an ICO icon with a set of sizes from 16 to 256 px. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
ICO is an icon file format used in the Windows operating system for icons of programs, folders and shortcuts, and on websites as a favicon. A single ICO file can contain several images of different sizes and color depths.
Several sizes are needed so that the system can choose a suitable variant depending on where the icon is shown. A small icon is needed for a file list, and a larger one for the desktop and taskbar. A typical set includes sizes of 16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels.
Inside the file, the individual images can be stored as uncompressed raster data or as embedded PNG files. The second variant is accepted for large icons because it saves space and preserves smooth transparency. Modern systems and browsers read such icons without problems.
The ICO converter creates an icon from a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. It is enough to choose the source picture and mark the sizes you need. For a square result it is better to take a square image, otherwise it will have to be fitted with transparent margins or cropped at the edges.
For a website favicon, sizes of 16 and 32 pixels are usually enough, but modern browsers and search engines also use larger images. The favicon.ico file is usually placed in the root folder of the site, or its path is specified in the page markup.
The conversion is performed locally in the browser, and the source images are not sent to a server. After processing, the icon can be downloaded right away, and when several files are selected you get a separate ICO for each. The result is available immediately after processing finishes.
