Converter from CRW

The ready-made photo embedded in Canon CRW RAW files is taken and saved as JPG, PNG or WebP. The size may be smaller than the full shot. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.

CRW is an old Canon RAW format used by the first EOS digital SLR cameras and PowerShot compacts of the early 2000s. Around 2004 it was replaced by the CR2 format, but many photographers still have archives of CRW files.

Unlike most RAW files, CRW is not based on TIFF but on Canon’s own CIFF structure, in which data is laid out in nested blocks. Next to the file there is often a small THM file with a thumbnail created by the camera.

Newer viewers often refuse to open such shots, and the preview tools built into the system show only a thumbnail. That is why, for an old archive, it is more convenient to get ordinary pictures that open anywhere.

The CRW to JPG converter looks inside the file for a ready-made embedded image and saves it as JPG, PNG or WebP. The size of such a frame may be small, and in some files there is only a thumbnail. In that case the page reports the result.

Everything happens in the browser, and shots are not uploaded to a server. You can add many files at once and download the results one by one or all together. For deep processing of RAW data, use a specialized editor.
