QOI converter

JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are turned into QOI, a fast format with no quality loss. The pixel size does not change. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.

QOI, or Quite OK Image, is a comparatively new raster image format presented in 2021 by developer Dominic Szablewski. Its goal was to achieve lossless compression comparable to PNG with a much simpler and faster algorithm.

The format specification takes up only one page. The encoder processes pixels in sequence and uses several techniques: repeating the previous pixel, small color changes, and referring to a table of recently used colors. Thanks to this, encoding and decoding run several times faster than with PNG.

The format stores 3 or 4 channels of 8 bits each, including an alpha channel, and introduces no distortion. It is well suited to game textures, screenshots, intermediate data in graphics pipelines and other tasks where processing speed matters.

The drawback of QOI is limited support. Browsers do not open such files directly, and viewers need special modules. The compression ratio for complex photographs is inferior to modern formats, while for simple graphics it can be close to PNG.

The QOI converter converts JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF without quality loss relative to the source pixels. Transparency is preserved, and the size in pixels stays the same. It is a convenient way to prepare images for programs that support this format.

Calculations are performed on your device, so files are not uploaded to a server. Finished images can be downloaded one by one or all at once. No registration or software installation is required. The page works on computers, tablets and smartphones.
