ZIP and renaming
Rename many files by a template or at random and download them as one ZIP archive. Everything happens in the browser, files are not uploaded anywhere.
Batch renaming is needed when you have to put dozens or hundreds of files in order: photos from a trip, product pictures for a store, scans of documents. Doing this by hand takes a long time, and a template does it in a few seconds. The page changes only the names, and the contents of the files stay untouched.
There are 2 main modes. In the first, each file receives a random name of 15 characters, which is convenient for publishing when the original name should not be revealed. In the second, the name is built from a template that can include a number, the original name, today’s date and the modification date of the file.
Additional rules are applied on top of the template. You can find and replace a fragment of the name, transliterate letters into the Latin alphabet, convert everything to lowercase and replace spaces with hyphens. These steps are useful when preparing files for a website, where clean names are better for addresses and for search.
Numbering is set separately: the order of the files can be as added, by name, by modification date or by size, and the number of digits in the counter is chosen so that the list sorts correctly. The preview of the new names is shown right away, before downloading.
The result is saved as a ZIP archive, and a folder inside it can be given a name. A ZIP created in the browser should not exceed about 4 GB and 65,000 files; for larger collections it is better to split the work into several parts. Files can also be downloaded separately.
The work takes place on your device, and the files are not sent to a server. The contents of the files do not change, and neither does their size. No registration is required, and the page works in modern browsers on a computer and on a phone.
